National At Home Dad Network Annual Convention
The National At Home Dad Network is a non-profit organization and their annual convention is being held in Denver, CO this year. The mission of the At Home Dad Network is simply this: “to provide support, education and advocacy for fathers who are the primary caregivers of their children.” (from the website)
I am really looking forward to going to this convention for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I am hoping to connect with other at home dads and become part of a support system. Secondly, it will be the first time I have had more than a day or two to myself in about 4.5 years.
So, on Sept 17, I will be flying from Sacramento to Denver. Some of you may know that I lived on the north side of Denver for a couple of years and I am excited to see some old… er… longtime friends and soak in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. On Thurs the 18th, the Denver Dads Group is hosting a meetup at the Colorado Rockies game. This promises to be a great time to meet new people and settle into “convention mode”. The convention runs Friday and Saturday and I will fly home on Sunday morning. Follow me on twitter (@sahg33kdad) for updates on the trip and activities. If you are interested in the keynotes or breakout sessions, I will be attempting live blogging as I am able. Check the link in the sidebar for “Live Blog”.
I would appreciate prayers and good thoughts for myself as I travel. I will be putting myself (deliberately) into social situations which will be difficult for me (read: scare the crap out of me). There are also the logistics of flights, hotels, rental cars, etc). Also, there is the dreaded “con flu” to watch out for. More importantly, however, I ask for prayers and good thoughts for my awesome wife, Shannon. Shannon will be in sole charge of the kiddlets for the whole 5 days I will be gone. If you know Shannon (or even if you don’t), drop her a note of encouragement at her facebook page.
